Entrance of Smart Fortwo Electric Drive before to 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show

Mercedes-Benz and Bosch developed the latest Smart Fortwo Electric Drive that delivers a 33-horsepower and the new battery raises up to a range of 87 miles, a 5-mile increase over the previous model.

Mercedes-Benz's city car division Smart has exposed a revised version of the Fortwo Electric Drive. This new electric motor was developed in a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Bosch.

Providing a drive to the rear wheels which is mounted at the rear, the brushless unit shows off a 33-horsepower and 7 pound-feet increase over the earlier Fortwo Electric Drive's motor at 73 hp and 96 lb-ft, correspondingly.

The added reserves cut the 0-37 mph (0-60 km/h) time by 1.5 seconds to 5.0 seconds. Top speed also enlarges from 62 mph (100 km/h) to 75 mph (120 km/h).

A new lithium-ion battery pack is supplied to provide the electrical energy which is being shaped by Deutsche ACCUmotive.

It restores the Telsa-supplied unit used by the second iteration of the Fortwo Electric Drive. And the production of which has now stopped after a run of more than 2,000 cars.

The power of the battery had increased from 16.5 kW/h to 17.7 kW/h in a move that offers the new Fortwo Electric Drive with a 5-mile increase in range over the older model at a claimed 87 miles.

Smart has established that production of the latest Fortwo Electric Drive is designed to be improved to over 10,000 units. The earlier model's production was restricted at just 2,000 units.
